In 1932 carpenter Ole Kirk Christiansen founded his company in Billund, Denmark with the purpose of encouraging imaginative play and awe-inspiring in children. He began by producing stepladders. However, the Great Depression forced him into an adaptable business model. He changed his focus on the manufacturing of toys, and created one of the most loved brands.
Christiansen was a progressive thinker and was quick to adopt new materials and technologies. In 1947 he was the first company in the world to purchase an injection molding machine made of plastic which dramatically increased the options and capabilities of Lego products. The machine also let him create a prototype which would eventually become the iconic Lego brick. The bricks came with pegs at the top and hollow bottoms that interlocked with each others, allowing children build complex structures that went beyond the capabilities of the wooden blocks of earlier generations.
The 1950s were a period of growth for the company. Godtfred Kirk Christiansen’s daughter Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen joined the management team, and she began to modernize the company’s manufacturing methods. The expansion also included the launch of a line dollhouses, furnishings and minifigures as individual pieces. In 1979, the company widened its range of products to include sets of astronaut minifigures as well as https://lego-x.com/2019/11/15/what-lego-vdr-users-can-teach/ rockets. They also introduced lunar rovers, spaceships and spaceships.
In 1990, the company launched three Model Team sets that were designed for advanced builders. The sets contained small parts like levers, axles gears and other components. They were the first Lego sets to offer a level of realism and accuracy.
